U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on the 9th (local time) that he is preventing wars between North and South Korea, Japan and North Korea, and China and Taiwan. Criticizing the Norwegian Nobel Committee's decision after being passed over for this year's Nobel Peace Prize despite claiming to have ended eight wars, he called the move an "indelible stain."

Trump claims, "I am constantly preventing wars between the two Koreas, North Korea–Japan, and across the Taiwan Strait"

Speaking at a campaign rally in Syracuse, New York, in support of Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections, President Trump cited examples of conflicts he claimed to have resolved, including India–Pakistan, Israel–Hamas, Egypt–Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo–Rwanda, and Kosovo–Serbia.

"I am also constantly preventing wars between South Korea and North Korea, Japan and North Korea, and China and Taiwan," he asserted, suggesting that war has been averted in these regions because of his efforts.

President Trump also expressed confidence that conflicts involving Iran and Ukraine would be resolved soon. Speaking specifically on the war involving Iran, he stated, "Iran will be resolved very quickly, one way or another." He added, "Either they give us everything, or they won't exist anymore—and they know it."

Navi Pillay, a South African jurist, international law advocate, and laureate of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, answers questions from reporters after delivering her acceptance remarks in historic Courtroom 600 at the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg, southern Germany, on the 9th (local time). Courtroom 600 is where the Nuremberg Trials were held from 1945 to 1946 to prosecute the leaders of Nazi Germany. Pillay was announced as the laureate while attending the "2026 Nuremberg Forum" hosted by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy. She previously led the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and served as chair of the UN Commission of Inquiry that alleged Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip last year. Jørgen Watne Frydnes, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, praised Pillay for playing a pivotal role in ensuring the prosecution of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. / AFP, Yonhap

Trump argues he "ended eight wars yet received no Nobel"

President Trump voiced strong displeasure over this year's Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to someone else. "Today, the Nobel Peace Prize went to somebody I never heard of," he said, downplaying the laureate as a "mystery person nobody knows." This year's Nobel Peace Prize recipient is Navi Pillay, a human rights law expert who previously served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and as a judge on the International Criminal Court (ICC).

President Trump reiterated his claim of having brought eight wars to an end. "Solving just one of those would get you a Nobel Prize," he said. "We should have received a Nobel Prize for each one—eight in total." He went on to emphasize, "The United States, represented by your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but we didn't."

Trump claims the Nobel Prize has lost credibility

Targeting the Norwegian Nobel Committee's decision, President Trump criticized it as "an indelible stain on Norway and on those who made such a shameful, disgraceful decision." He claimed, "The Nobel Peace Prize has been permanently discredited by a small group of radical ideologues who are anti-democratic and essentially enemies of civilization." He added, "We will not forget Norway for refusing to award this prize despite our historic, unmatched achievements."

Trump campaigns for New York Republican candidates

At the rally, President Trump campaigned for Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for governor in New York, a traditional Democratic stronghold. Ahead of the midterm elections, he urged Republican supporters to turn out at the polls. "If I'm not on the ballot, 48% of you don't vote," Trump remarked, making an appeal to his base: "Please pretend I'm on the ballot."
