Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin held separate telephone conversations with U.S. President Donald Trump on the occasion of his 80th birthday to discuss a draft peace agreement involving Iran, U.S. broadcaster CNBC, Bloomberg News, and The Moscow Times reported on June 14 (local time).

According to foreign media reports, President Zelenskyy extended his birthday wishes to President Trump during a phone call that lasted approximately 30 minutes.

Following the call, Zelenskyy posted on social media, "We discussed matters that can bring peace closer now, and I informed the President of the battlefield situation and Ukraine's strengthened position."

He added, "We agreed to continue further discussions at the G7 summit. There are good ideas that can advance peace and protect lives."

The Kremlin announced that President Putin and Trump had a "friendly and candid telephone conversation," which lasted about 55 minutes.

"During the call with Trump, the situation surrounding the draft memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran was intensively discussed," Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said. "President Trump noted that an agreement is close and expressed hope that the results could be announced today."

CNBC interpreted the calls as a move by Trump to strengthen his role as a mediator by communicating directly with both sides.

Bloomberg News predicted that negotiations regarding the memorandum of understanding with Iran and contacts between Washington and Moscow would emerge as primary agenda items at the G7 summit, emphasizing the context of international negotiations and the diplomatic balance.
