Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun. / Asia Today reporter Park Sung-il

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 16th that a South Korea-U.S. foreign ministers' meeting will be held in Washington, D.C., on the 18th.

According to the ministry, Minister Cho Hyun will hold talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the 18th and carry out his itinerary in the U.S. through the 19th.The two sides plan to consult on a broad range of topics, including South Korea-U.S. bilateral relations, Korean Peninsula affairs, and regional and global issues.

The upcoming ministerial meeting was arranged following an agreement between the two ministers during a phone conversation last month to hold in-person consultations at an early date.

In particular, given the mounting volume of pending bilateral issues to be addressed, the meeting will be conducted as a standalone visit rather than on the sidelines of multilateral platforms such as the United Nations General Assembly.
