Yoo Jae-suk claims ninth MBC Daesang

Yoo Jae-suk holds the Grand Prize at the 2025 MBC Entertainment Awards in Seoul.

Yoo Jae-suk won the Grand Prize at the 2025 MBC Entertainment Awards, marking the 21st Daesang of his career and his ninth at MBC.

The awards ceremony was held on Dec. 29 at the MBC Media Center Public Hall in Sangam-dong, Seoul, hosted by Jun Hyun-moo and Jang Do-yeon. Although MBC did not announce nominees in advance, those named on site included Jun, Jang, Kian84, Yoo and Kim Yeon-koung.

Accepting the award, Yoo said he was unsure how to fully express his gratitude. He thanked his parents and his wife, Na Kyung-eun, and expressed appreciation to the production team of Hangout with Yoo. He also mentioned former cast members Jinju, Mijoo and Lee Kyung, thanking them for their dedication.

Reflecting on the milestone, Yoo noted that it was his ninth Grand Prize at MBC and his 21st overall. He added with a smile that while the future is uncertain, he would “keep working hard,” even joking about aiming for 30 awards. He closed by wishing viewers a healthy and positive 2026.

Hangout with Yoo has been led by Yoo for seven years and has become one of MBC’s flagship weekend variety programs. This year, special episodes such as the “80s MBC Seoul Music Festival” and “A Gathering of the Unpopular” drew strong viewer response, while the program surpassed its 300th episode.

Meanwhile, the viewer-voted Program of the Year award went to Rookie Director Kim Yeon-koung. The program swept multiple categories, including Entertainer of the Year, Best Couple, Best Teamwork, Hot Issue and Rookie awards.

Producer Lim Kyung-sik said the show focused on the stories of underdogs rather than winners, praising the athletes’ hard work and perseverance. He also thanked Kim Yeon-koung for her leadership and respect on set, which he said made the project possible.
