Park Chan-wook’s film No Other Choice has been named to the Academy Awards shortlist for the international feature film category. “Golden,” an OST track from Netflix’s animated title K-pop Demon Hunters, also landed on the shortlist for best original song.

According to the shortlist for the 98th Academy Awards released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) on December 16, No Other Choice was included among 15 titles competing in the international feature film category, alongside this year’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner It Was Just an Accident and National Treasure by Japan-based director Lee Sang-il. AMPAS said it selected the shortlist from submissions representing 86 countries and regions, including South Korea.

“Golden,” which helped fuel the global K-pop boom, will compete for a final nomination against tracks including “The Girl in the Bubble” and “No Place Like Home” from Wicked: For Good, “Dream as One” from Avatar: Fire and Ash, “Drive” from F1 the Movie, and songs such as “I Ride to You” and “Last Time (I Seen the Sun)” from Sinners.

Earlier, No Other Choice was nominated in three categories at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards—best motion picture (musical or comedy), best non-English language motion picture, and best actor (Lee Byung-hun). “Golden” earned Golden Globe nominations for best animated feature, best original song, and the cinematic and box office achievement category. The Golden Globe ceremony will be held on January 11 next year.

Meanwhile, on the Oscars shortlist released the same day, Sinners and Wicked: For Good were both shortlisted in eight categories, including casting, cinematography, makeup, sound, and visual effects, boosting their prospects for multiple wins.

Final nominations for the 98th Academy Awards will be announced on January 22 next year. The ceremony will be held on March 15 next year.
