The 2025 MAMA Awards will go ahead as planned on November 28, though with significant changes to staging and production, following the deadly apartment fire in Hong Kong that claimed numerous lives.

CJ ENM said on Friday that it would present a performance “focused on comfort and hope rather than spectacle,” noting that the entire stage design and program flow had been carefully revised. “We will take full responsibility and do our utmost until the end,” the company said.

As part of the changes, the red-carpet event has been canceled. The main ceremony, however, will proceed unchanged and will be broadcast live as originally planned. Additional modifications are expected to remove certain special effects and adjust performances in line with the somber atmosphere.

CJ ENM added that the show would set aside time for remembrance and deliver a message of “Support Hong Kong,” alongside plans to make donations for those affected by the tragedy.

The decision followed lengthy internal discussions, as the sharp rise in casualties prompted questions over whether the awards should proceed at all. Mnet had earlier stated that it was “acutely aware of the gravity of the situation” and was reviewing response measures across all divisions. Several performance elements have since been reworked.

This year’s MAMA Awards will take place November 28–29 at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium, featuring artists including AlphaDrive1, BABYMONSTER, Enhypen, Hearts2Hearts, TWOURS, Stray Kids, Zerobaseone and G-Dragon.
