Netflix’s animated film K-pop Demon Hunters has scored another milestone on the Billboard charts.
According to Billboard on Sept. 29, the movie’s theme song “Golden,” performed by the fictional girl group Huntrix, secured the top spot on the Hot 100 for the seventh time, including six consecutive weeks. Only two K-pop songs have held No. 1 for seven weeks or more: “Golden” and BTS’s “Butter,” which reigned for 10 weeks.
During the tracking week, “Golden” logged 33.8 million streams (up 5% from last week), radio airplay impressions of 33.9 million (up 11%), and sales of 8,000 copies (up 2%). It also led the Streaming Songs chart for a 10th straight week, rose from 16th to 9th on Radio Songs, and ranked No. 2 on Digital Song Sales. It marks the first time an animated character’s song has entered the Radio Songs top 10.
Originally debuting at No. 81 last year, “Golden” has stayed on the Hot 100 for 14 consecutive weeks and now holds the longest No. 1 streak for a song performed by animated characters.
The track also made history in the Billboard soundtrack category. Following Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” from The Bodyguard, which spent 14 weeks at No. 1, “Golden” is now tied as the ninth-longest chart-topper among soundtracks.
Produced by Korean American musicians Lee Jae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, “Golden” has also achieved a landmark as the second-longest-running No. 1 hit by a female group of three or more members in Hot 100 history. It ties TLC’s “Waterfalls,” with the record of 11 weeks still held by Destiny’s Child’s “Independent Women Part 1.”
The success extends beyond “Golden.” The soundtrack’s other tracks, “Soda Pop” by Saja Boys and “Your Idol,” ranked No. 3 and No. 5 respectively this week. For the fourth straight week, three songs from the K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack remain in the Hot 100 top 5, underscoring the growing global influence of K-pop and soundtracks.
K-pop Demon Hunters follows the fictional girl group Huntrix as they battle evil spirits and is available worldwide on Netflix.
