Netflix is set to release its new fantasy romantic comedy Genie, Make a Wish on Oct. 3, bringing together Kim Woo-bin and Suzy in their first on-screen reunion in nine years.

The series follows Genie (Kim Woo-bin), a mystical spirit who awakens after a thousand years, and Ga-young (Suzy), a woman devoid of emotions. The two become entangled in a dangerous wager involving three wishes, setting off a string of unpredictable events.

At a press conference held on Sept. 29 at the Josun Palace in Seoul, Kim described the drama as “captivating because it raises fundamental questions about human desire, nature, love, friendship, and the boundary between good and evil.” He added that Genie is a “multi-layered character—playful, cruel, and even endearing.”

Suzy, who plays Ga-young, said she was drawn to the fresh and unusual script. “The character’s antisocial personality disorder made her unique and appealing. Reuniting with Kim Woo-bin after nine years was wonderful. Filming this time was much smoother and more enjoyable,” she said, adding that Ga-young, though a psychopath, “tries to live more rightly than most people.”

The supporting cast also brings depth to the series. Ahn Eun-jin plays Mi-joo, a mysterious newcomer to Cheongpung Village; Lee Joo-young portrays Min-ji, Ga-young’s warm and loyal best friend; Noh Sang-hyun takes on the role of Soo-hyun, a respected community figure who is secretly the “angel of death”; and Ko Kyu-pil appears as Saeid, a shape-shifting creature that moves between jaguar and teddy bear forms.

Reflecting on the reunion, Suzy said, “The comic timing with Woo-bin came naturally this time.” Kim, in turn, praised her as “an actress who always brings happiness to those around her.”

Suzy also recorded part of the soundtrack, noting: “I worked with So Soo-min on a beautiful, fairy tale-like song that will bring warmth to the series.”

Genie, Make a Wish will be released globally on Netflix on Oct. 3.
