The original soundtrack (OST) to Netflix’s animated film “K-pop Demon Hunters” has reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the key barometer of the U.S. music market.

The OST captured both the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Hot 100 singles chart, underscoring the project’s blend of critical and commercial appeal.

On September 14, Billboard said in a preview article that the “K-pop Demon Hunters” soundtrack displaced Sabrina Carpenter’s “Man’s Best Friend” to take the albums crown.

After debuting at No. 8, the album held near the summit for weeks, logging a nonconsecutive seven weeks at No. 2 before finally ascending to No. 1 this week.

Notably, the track “Golden” is riding a four-week run at No. 1 on the Hot 100—an unusual double as both the OST and its flagship single sit atop their respective charts.

Billboard noted it is only the seventh time an OST has led the Billboard 200, and the first since Disney’s “Encanto” in 2022.

Album ranks are calculated in “album units,” a composite of physical sales, digital downloads and streaming. This week, the “K-pop Demon Hunters” OST earned 128,000 units.

Of that total, streaming-equivalent albums (SEA) accounted for 103,000 units, up 1% from a week earlier. Physical album sales surged 56% to 23,000, while track-equivalent albums (TEA) totaled 2,000. It also opened at No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart.

Billboard attributed the surge to nationwide sing-along screenings and a deluxe reissue. The 23-track deluxe edition adds sing-along and a cappella versions to prior hits, with an LP release slated for October 17.
