Park Chan-wook’s latest film No Other Choice will hold its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on August 29 (local time), distributor CJ ENM announced on August 20.

The screening is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. and marks the first Korean film invited to the festival’s main competition since the late Kim Ki-duk’s Pieta 13 years ago. Ahead of the premiere, Park Chan-wook and lead actors Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, and Yum Hye-ran will walk the red carpet. They will also participate in press conferences and local interviews during the festival.

No Other Choice is Park’s first feature in three years since Decision to Leave (2022). The film follows Mansoo (Lee Byung-hun), a satisfied office worker whose life unravels after he is abruptly fired. Struggling to protect his wife, two children, and hard-earned home, Mansoo embarks on a desperate quest for re-employment.

Park has previously been invited to Venice with Three, Monster (2004) in the Midnight Express section and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2015) in the main competition. This year, anticipation is high over whether he will secure a major award.
