Actors Cho Yeo-jeong and Jung Sung-il face off in an intense battle of wits as a journalist and a serial killer in the upcoming thriller Murder Report.
At a production briefing held on August 12 at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul, the cast shared their thoughts on the film, which is set to premiere next month. The story follows a psychiatrist who has committed serial murders and offers an exclusive interview to a reporter, setting off a tense psychological duel.
Cho, who plays reporter Baek Seon-joo, said, “After filming the one-on-one interview scenes, I would return to my lodging with aching forehead muscles from furrowing my brow so much. That’s how intense it was.”
Jung, portraying psychiatrist Young-hoon, said, “As soon as I read the script, I was afraid it might go to someone else, so I immediately said I absolutely wanted to do it. I don’t like serial killers, but I could understand the starting point of this character. I thought deeply about how to express his ability to persuade and manipulate people.”
First-time director Jo Young-jun explained, “I wanted to portray conflict born from logic rather than physical confrontation. The constant sparks between the two characters, the weight of the ending, and the moral dilemmas will leave audiences feeling drained after watching.”
The event also included lighthearted exchanges about Cho’s recent box office success with My Daughter is a Zombie. Cho said, “That project was also a huge challenge like Murder Report, so I’m just grateful and happy about its success.” Jung responded with a laugh, “Seeing My Daughter is a Zombie do so well made me think, ‘I’m glad I chose to work with her.’”
