Actor Song Young-kyu has passed away at the age of 53.

According to Yongin Dongbu Police Station, Song was found dead in his car in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, at around 8 a.m. on August 4. His funeral will be held in Special Room 1 of Davos Hospital Funeral Hall, with his wife and two daughters listed as chief mourners. The burial is scheduled for August 6 at Hambaksan Memorial Park.

In response to the sudden news, the production teams of the dramas “Eye Shopping” and “Try: We Become a Miracle” (“Try”) stated they are “currently confirming the situation.”

Song played Yoon Se-hoon, who handled money laundering for the protagonist Se-hee (Yeom Jung-ah) in Eye Shopping, and Kim Min-jung, the rugby coach at Daesang High School, in Try. Notably, Try is a pre-produced series that finished filming in March, so upcoming episodes will still feature Song’s scenes.

Last month, Song was caught drunk driving after police responded to a report in Yongin’s Giheung-gu. His blood alcohol level exceeded 0.08%, the threshold for license revocation, and he admitted to driving himself home after drinking with acquaintances.
