The OST "Golden" from Netflix’s animated film "K-pop Demon Hunters" has reached No. 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart, sparking anticipation of it claiming the top spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

According to the UK Official Charts on August 1, "Golden" rose three spots to No. 1 in its sixth week, marking the first time a K-pop track has topped the chart since Psy’s "Gangnam Style" in 2012, 13 years ago. It is also only the second time an animated film OST has reached the summit since Disney’s "Encanto" in 2022.

The track has also dominated streaming platforms, ranking No. 1 globally on Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music. In Korea, it topped Circle Digital Chart as well as Melon’s weekly and monthly charts for July.

On the Billboard Hot 100, "Golden" climbed to No. 2 on the July 29 chart. The only K-pop acts to previously hit No. 1 were BTS with "Dynamite," "Butter," and "Permission to Dance." All eyes are now on the chart to be released on August 4 (local time) to see if "Golden" can secure the top spot.

The song’s production involved composers from The Black Label, led by Teddy, known for his work with BIGBANG and BLACKPINK. Its fusion of pop structure with K-pop’s emotional flair and high-quality global production has been credited for its success, showcasing how K-pop-driven content can expand in the global music market in the streaming era.

K-pop Demon Hunters, which follows K-pop idols battling demons, premiered on Netflix in June and has achieved high viewership in North America, Europe, and Asia, landing in the upper ranks of Netflix’s global Top 10 films chart.
