Jo Jung-suk’s new film My Daughter is a Zombie had a strong debut, drawing over 430,000 moviegoers on its opening day and setting the biggest opening record for any film released this year.

According to the Korean Film Council’s box office data on Thursday, the film attracted 430,000 viewers on its release day on July 30, topping the daily box office. This surpasses the previous record set by Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning, which drew 423,000 viewers on its opening day in May.

Based on a popular webtoon of the same name, the movie follows Jung-hwan (played by Jo Jung-suk), a zookeeper specializing in wild animals, who moves to his mother’s rural home to train his daughter Soo-ah (Choi Yu-ri), who has been infected by a global zombie virus, in an effort to bring her back to humanity.

As of Thursday morning, the film also led advance booking rates with 36.6% (197,832 tickets sold), signaling its strong prospects to dominate the box office over its first weekend.
