Naver decided to strengthen the division between 'search ads' and 'information'. This is Naver's follow-up measures to the comment that users could misidentify search ads as information.
On October 6, Naver announced that it will put the phrase "ad" in Korean in its search advertising area and add an 'ⓘ' icon that describes the ad, starting on the 8th. It will also make search ads more distinct from other areas by adding background shading.
A rep from Naver said, "We prepared the restructuring plan based on advisory opinions of the Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning's 'Internet search service system improvement research team' and others. From now on, we will actively reflect the Ministry's recommendation in not only advertising area but other services as well."
Since September 2008, Naver has been displaying 'AD' phrase (meaning advertisement) in 'Power link' and 'Biz site', which are its search ad sections. However the phrase is too small and is on the top of Naver Search Result that many have commented that users could misidentify search ads as information.
