Yoon Young-Chan, director of NHN's media service department, makes use of his career as Dong-A Ilbo political journalist and calls Saenuri Party leadership for dinner. |
On July 31, it has been confirmed that some journalists-turned-executives of NHN, which has been facing criticism of the public and small & medium-sized enterprises, were lobbying in order to prevent politics' regulatory legislation over Naver.
On the same day, an official from Saenuri Party said, "There was a phone call from NHN's news director Yoon Young-Chan to assemblyman 'K' of Saenuri Party leadership for dinner. Assemblyman 'K' politely declined the offer since there was inspection of national administration going on and he didn't have enough time."
The official said, "As Saenuri Party is taking action for NHN regulatory legislation, director Yoon, who has never called before, is trying to contact every assemblyman of Saenuri Party leadership using his past career as a journalist."
Yoon Young-Chan, director of NHN's media service department, is former political journalist from Dong-A Ilbo and is known as the decision-maker in the field of Naver news search and news service business.
Director Yoon has not officially revealed his duty and has been restricting outside contact. When partner news agency officials requested a meeting with him in relation to NHN's news service, he made excuse to chicken out of business meetings claiming that he had nothing to do with decision making. It was customary for him to step back and shift most of business meetings of his NHN media service team to NHN's External Relations Team.
For this reason, Han Jong-Ho, director of External Relations Team and former journalist from MoonHwa Ilbo, has been in charge of NHN's external cooperation such as broadcastings, debates, and press conferences. It seems like director Yoon decided to take the lead and lobby politicians as NHN has been beaten up by politics and the public.
