K-pop group JYJ (Jaejoong, Yuchun & Junsu) has been appointed as publicity ambassador for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
The Asian Games Committee said, "We selected JYJ, a K-pop group gaining extreme popularity in Asian regions, as our publicity ambassador to expand people's awareness of the Asian Games and to promote the event in the Asian region," on Tuesday, February 19.
Previously, the group attracted an audience of 210,000 people in total on a world tour concert that took the group to 15 cities around the world from 2011 to 2012, proving its international fame. JYJ has worked as goodwill ambassador for UNAIDS in Asia-pacific regions and the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit.
Furthermore, JYJ made issues for bringing economic effect worth of 10 billion KRW for drawing 7,024 Japanese fans back in June to Korea for its fan exhibition event, earning a new record for the biggest number of foreigners entering Korea for a single event.
Kim Young Soo, the head of the organizing committee, said "We hope JYJ's international fame will help increase awareness of 40-billion Asian people for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games so that the event could be held successfully."
JYJ's appointment ceremony will take place on Wednesday, February 20.
