South Korean President Lee Jae-myung met with U.S. President Donald Trump for about 30 minutes in New York on the 22nd local time to discuss bilateral pending issues.

Wi Sung-lac, director of the National Security Office at Cheong Wa Dae, announced during a briefing at the press center in New York that "the leaders of South Korea and the U.S. held a bilateral summit for 30 minutes starting at 7:20 p.m. today."

Wi noted that "both leaders welcomed the significant progress made in discussions on strategic investment projects in the U.S."

He also stated, "Building on the outcomes of the November bilateral summit, they affirmed a shared commitment to further deepen cooperation on nuclear submarine fuel, uranium enrichment and spent fuel reprocessing, shipbuilding collaboration, and the transition of wartime operational control (OPCON), agreeing to pursue follow-up discussions."

Wi added that President Trump "reaffirmed his commitment to dialogue with North Korea," and that "as peacemakers and pacemakers, the two leaders agreed to communicate closely for sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula."

Regarding the U.S.-China summit scheduled for the 24th, President Lee said, "The U.S.-China summit is important for South Korea-China relations and regional affairs, and we look forward to a successful outcome," according to Wi.

The two leaders agreed to hold follow-up consultations in Washington on the matters discussed at the earliest possible date.

It was reported that no discussions regarding the Strait of Hormuz took place during the meeting.

A Cheong Wa Dae official stated, "There was no discussion concerning Hormuz."
