A buy-side sidecar was triggered on the KOSPI on the 5th after the index surged.
According to the Korea Exchange that day, program buy orders were temporarily suspended on the KOSPI market at 9:24 a.m.
A KOSPI sidecar is triggered when KOSPI 200 futures prices rise 5% or more above the base price and sustain that level for one minute.
The KOSPI surged that day, led by large-cap chip stocks. As of 9:40 a.m., the KOSPI was trading at 6649.29, up 4.57% from the previous day. At the same time, Samsung Electronics was trading at 250,500 won, up 4.38%, and SK Hynix at 1,691,000 won, up 7.23%.
