As the KOSPI index surged on July 22, a program buy order temporary halt—known as a buy-side sidecar—was activated.
According to the Korea Exchange, the validity of program buy orders was suspended in the main KOSPI market at 9:06 a.m. that day.
A KOSPI sidecar is triggered when the KOSPI 200 futures price moves up or down by 5% or more from the reference price and holds that change for one minute.
As of 9:07 a.m., the main KOSPI index was trading at 7,120.48, up 5.52% from the previous session's close.
