The KOSPI and KOSDAQ indexes surged on July 15, triggering program buying halts, known as "sidecars," across both exchanges.
According to the Korea Exchange, the sidecar was activated on the KOSPI market at 9:06 AM, and on the KOSDAQ market at 9:17 AM.
A buy sidecar on the KOSPI is triggered when the KOSPI 200 futures price rises by 5% or more from the previous day's close and remains there for one minute. On the KOSDAQ, a buy sidecar is activated when the KOSDAQ 150 futures price increases by 6% or more and the KOSDAQ 150 index rises by 3% or more, with both conditions persisting for one minute.
As of 9:34 AM, the KOSPI index was trading at 7,334.72, up 6.97% from the previous day, while the KOSDAQ index stood at 824.73, up 5.20%.
