Cardinal Lazzaro You, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy at the Vatican, will deliver a lecture focused on two popes: Pope Francis and Pope Leo XIV.
Catholic Publishing House announced on July 14 that it will host a lecture and talk event titled "The Story of Two Popes Met by Cardinal Lazzaro You" at 2 p.m. on July 18 at Myeongdong Cathedral in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The event is organized to allow Cardinal You, who worked closely with former Pope Francis and current Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, to share the faith, spirituality, and human aspects of the two popes with local Catholics.
Following the lecture, Cardinal You plans to engage in a dialogue with the congregation to discuss questions about the two popes, as well as insights into the Vatican, the Roman Curia, and both the Korean and global Catholic Church. Catholic Publishing House is planning a book publication based on the contents shared during this lecture and dialogue.
"This event holds significant meaning as it allows us to feel the human side of the popes and the universality of the Church through the voice of a Korean cardinal who interacted with them firsthand," an official from Catholic Publishing House said. The event is hosted by the Spirituality Academy of the Institute for Spirituality and Psychological Counseling under the Pastoral Department of the Archdiocese of Seoul.
Meanwhile, Cardinal You was appointed Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy by former Pope Francis in 2021, becoming the first Korean clergyman to head a Vatican congregation. In 2022, he was elevated to the rank of cardinal, becoming the fourth in the history of the Korean Catholic Church following Cardinals Stephen Kim Sou-hwan, Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, and Andrew Yeom Soo-jung.
