Samsung Display has successfully developed a QD-OLED panel that achieves a 4K resolution and a high 360Hz refresh rate simultaneously for the first time in the monitor industry. By engineering a product that merges ultra-high resolution with an ultra-high refresh rate, the company plans to accelerate its foray into the high-performance gaming monitor market.

On May 28, Samsung Display announced that it will showcase the 31.5-inch 4K 360Hz QD-OLED panel to clients and media outlets for the first time at Computex 2026, which will be held in Taipei, Taiwan, from June 2 to 5.

Up to this point, it has been standard practice within the display industry to either scale down the refresh rate to 240Hz or lower to support 4K resolution, or to reduce the resolution to QHD levels to achieve high refresh rates of 360Hz or above. Implementing ultra-high resolution and an ultra-high refresh rate concurrently triggers a massive spike in pixel data processing requirements per second, placing a heavy burden on circuitry and driving architectures.

Samsung Display explained that it overcame these technical bottlenecks by optimizing the panel circuitry and driving systems. The development was also driven by shifting market dynamics, where growing demand for lifelike graphics in gaming and ultra-high-definition content has fueled consumer appetite for hardware that delivers both high resolution and high refresh rates.

The new product features a dual-mode function, allowing users to adjust the resolution and refresh rate depending on their computing environment. When toggled to FHD resolution, the panel can boost its refresh rate up to 680Hz, making it optimized for first-person shooter (FPS) games and other applications where instantaneous response times are critical.

Furthermore, it is the first monitor panel to earn the DisplayHDR True Black 600 certification from the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). Surpassing the True Black 500 tier, which was previously regarded as the highest standard in the premium self-emitting monitor market, this panel enhances both deep black representation and HDR peak brightness.

The display also incorporates the newly developed V-Stripe pixel architecture for this year. By aligning the RGB subpixels in a vertical stripe configuration, the panel delivers crisper text rendering along edges, enhancing legibility for productivity tasks such as word processing, coding, and graphic design.

Samsung Display is currently in supply consultations with roughly 10 global client companies and plans to enter full-scale mass production during the second half of this year.

"Many of our partners evaluate this new 31.5-inch 4K 360Hz product as a near-perfect display that satisfies every expectation consumers harbor for premium monitors, including ultra-high resolution, ultra-high refresh rates, high luminance, and crisp readability," remarked Jeong Yong-wook, Vice President of the Strategic Marketing Team for the Large Display Business Unit. "Leveraging the intrinsic picture quality excellence of QD-OLED alongside relentless research and development, we will continuously roll out innovative products that exceed market expectations."
