Song Eon-seok, floor leader of the People Power Party, on April 30 strongly criticized the parliamentary probe into alleged politically motivated indictments under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, calling it a “self-destructive hearing that proves Lee Jae-myung’s guilt.”

Speaking at a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly, Song argued that the probe was unconstitutional, claiming it was designed to cancel the indictment in Lee’s ongoing trial and that it represented legislative overreach into judicial authority.

“The parliamentary investigation was clearly intended to revoke the prosecution in President Lee’s trial, which is a violation of the separation of powers,” he said.

Song also alleged that key witnesses who could provide unfavorable testimony—such as attorney Seol Joo-wan and former Seongnam Development Corp. head Yoo Dong-gyu—were excluded, while coercive measures were used against others, including issuing a compulsory attendance order to a prosecutor undergoing cancer treatment.

He further criticized members of the Democratic Party of Korea, accusing them of using abusive language and intimidation tactics during the proceedings, calling their conduct “barbaric state violence.”

“The process began with illegality and unconstitutionality, and was driven by ambition and coercion, but the result ultimately revealed the truth—that Lee Jae-myung is guilty,” Song claimed.

He added that the investigation confirmed there had been no fabricated indictment, asserting instead that only false statements from individuals linked to the Daejang-dong development scandal, including Lee Hwa-young and Kim Man-bae, had emerged.

Song also criticized the ruling party’s push for a special counsel with the authority to cancel indictments, describing it as an attempt to grant “a tool for self-pardon.”

“Introducing a special prosecutor with the power to cancel indictments is a clear violation of the rule of law and an act of judicial destruction,” he said. “No matter what happens, Lee Jae-myung is guilty.”
