The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) has formally adopted as its party line the government’s revised bills to establish a Criminal Investigation Office and a Public Prosecution Office, which are set to be re-announced for legislative notice.

Park Soo-hyun, the party’s chief spokesperson, made the announcement while speaking to reporters during a closed-door general meeting of lawmakers at the National Assembly on Feb. 22.

“The specific details cannot be disclosed,” Park said. “However, the party unanimously agreed to adopt the bills as our official position, with the understanding that the Legislation and Judiciary Committee may coordinate technical aspects in consultation with the floor leadership.”

The proposed legislation seeks to create a separate Criminal Investigation Office to handle major crimes and a Public Prosecution Office focused on indictment and trial functions, as part of the broader judicial reform agenda.

With the unanimous decision, the DPK is expected to accelerate discussions in the National Assembly once the government completes the re-notification process.
