The Kospi topped the 3,400 mark in early trade on September 15, setting another record high. In intraday moves, the benchmark climbed as high as 3,419.29, extending its bullish run.
According to the Korea Exchange, the Kospi opened at 3,407.78, up 30.45 points, or 0.36%, from the previous session.
Among the top 10 by market cap at the open, Samsung Electronics (+2.25%), SK hynix (+3.50%), LG Energy Solution (+0.42%), Hanwha Aerospace (+0.40%) and Samsung Electronics (preferred) (+1.48%) gained, while Samsung Biologics (-0.48%), KB Financial (-1.17%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (-0.98%), Hyundai Motor (-2.24%) and Kia (-2.08%) fell.
The Kosdaq also opened higher, adding 2.56 points, or 0.30%, to 849.64 from the previous close.
Within Kosdaq heavyweights, Alteogen (+0.51%), EcoPro BM (+1.18%), Peptron (+0.65%), EcoPro (+2.04%) and Rainbow Robotics (+2.89%) rose, while PharmaResearch (-2.17%), ABL Bio (-0.95%), LegoChem Biosciences (-0.65%), HLB (-0.28%) and Samchundang Pharmaceutical (-0.95%) declined.
As of 9:00 a.m., the won was trading at 1,392.00 per U.S. dollar on the Seoul foreign exchange market, down 2.00 won (-0.14%) from the previous day.
