Ex-first lady Kim Keon-hee, currently in detention, will undergo another round of questioning on August 28 as prosecutors prepare to indict her the following day. This will be her fifth interrogation since her arrest earlier this month.

According to the special counsel’s office led by Min Jung-ki, Kim is scheduled to appear at 10 a.m. at its office in the KT Gwanghwamun Building in central Seoul. Investigators said the session will be the final questioning before formal charges are filed.

Kim faces allegations that during the 2022 presidential election she and then-candidate Yoon Suk-yeol received polling data 58 times free of charge from political broker Myung Tae-gyun, and in return used influence to secure a party nomination for former lawmaker Kim Young-sun in that year’s parliamentary by-election.

She is also accused of acting as a financier in the 2009–2012 Deutsche Motors stock manipulation scheme and of receiving requests for favors from the Unification Church through shaman Jeon Seong-bae, better known as “Geonjin Beopsa.”

In four previous sessions held on August 14, 18, 21, and 25, Kim largely exercised her right to remain silent. Prosecutors said today’s interrogation will focus on gaps and inconsistencies left unresolved in earlier questioning.
