The Ministry of Education is set to announce a plan on July 25 to normalize medical education, including academic policies for medical students returning to school after a 17-month hiatus.

In a press release, the ministry said it would outline the government’s position on “the return and education of medical students.” The plan is expected to include a path for approximately 8,000 students who had failed the academic year to rejoin classes starting in the second semester this August.

University presidents and deans of medical schools have reportedly agreed to allow these students to resume their studies in the second semester, while still formally processing their academic failure in accordance with institutional rules.

The announcement had originally been scheduled for the previous day, but was delayed due to unresolved issues, particularly regarding the graduation timeline for third-year medical students.
