Singer Moon Won, who recently announced his engagement to Koyote member Shinji, has publicly addressed a wave of online allegations surrounding his past, denying claims of double dating and school bullying, while admitting to other parts of his history.
In a social media post on July 3, Moon wrote, “I sincerely apologize to Koyote fans and Shinji’s supporters who may have been disappointed or uncomfortable due to my careless remarks and the controversies surrounding me, especially after the July 2 video uploaded to the YouTube channel Eotteoshinji.”
Moon admitted that he once engaged in real estate brokerage without holding a proper license. “It was something I started during my struggling days to make ends meet. I didn’t realize at the time that it was wrong to work in real estate without certification,” he said.
However, he strongly denied allegations that he bullied classmates or fellow soldiers during school or military service. “If necessary, I will present objective evidence to refute these claims,” he stated.
He also acknowledged that his previous marriage was due to a premarital pregnancy but denied rumors that he was seeing another woman at the same time. Addressing speculation about a name change, Moon clarified, “My legal name is Park Sang-moon. I changed my stage name from Giryeon to Moon Won, but I’ve never changed my legal name.”
He concluded, “I deeply reflect on my shortcomings, and I promise to live with greater responsibility as I build a life with Shinji.”
The controversy emerged after Shinji, a member of long-running co-ed group Koyote, revealed her upcoming marriage to Moon Won, a singer seven years her junior, on June 23. During a July 2 video introducing Moon to her bandmates, it was disclosed that he was a divorcee with a daughter, prompting online backlash about his past and on-camera demeanor.
