Lee Min-ki returns with a bold new transformation in his 22nd year as an actor through the upcoming MBC suspense drama Mary Kills People, premiering August 1.
The series follows a doctor who assists terminally ill patients in ending their lives and a detective determined to track her down. Lee plays Cho Hyun-woo, a terminal cancer patient with no surviving family, making ends meet as a delivery driver. Teetering at the edge of life, Hyun-woo seeks help from emergency physician Woo So-jung (played by Lee Bo-young), who quietly provides assisted deaths.
“I’ve always had a personal interest in the subject of assisted death,” Lee said. “It’s something I’ve thought about after watching documentaries, and it’s come up occasionally in the news as a social issue. That’s what drew me to the project.”
Speaking about his role, Lee shared, “I approached it with the mindset of staying true to the script. The story contains not only sadness and laughter but also deep personal struggles.”
Producers praised Lee’s performance, stating, “Lee Min-ki brings emotional depth and subtle nuance to the role of a man facing death. He fully conveys the layered complexities of Cho Hyun-woo’s inner world. Audiences can look forward to a powerful meditation on the line between life and death, led by Lee’s weighty presence on screen.”
Mary Kills People premieres August 1 at 10 p.m. on MBC.
