Netflix’s upcoming film Good News has been officially invited to the Special Presentations section of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it will make its world premiere.
Celebrating its 50th edition, TIFF will run from September 4 to 14 and is considered the largest film festival in North America, ranking alongside Cannes, Berlin, and Venice as one of the world’s top four festivals. Good News will be screened for the first time to a global audience during the event.
The Special Presentations section, a non-competitive category, is known for featuring highly anticipated international titles. Previous Korean films featured in this section include Decision to Leave, The Handmaiden, and Veteran 2.

TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey said the selection was made because Good News “embodies the festival’s values of innovation, authenticity, and global perspective.”
Set in the 1970s, Good News tells the suspenseful story of a hijacked plane and the bizarre tactics employed to ensure its landing. The film is directed by Byun Sung-hyun, known for Kill Boksoon, and stars Sol Kyung-gu, Hong Kyung, and Ryu Seung-bum. This marks Byun’s third international film festival invitation, following The Merciless at Cannes and Kill Boksoon at Berlin.
