Seungkwan, a member of K-pop group SEVENTEEN, has donated ₩20 million to support the preservation of archival records related to the Jeju April 3 Incident.
According to his agency Pledis Entertainment on June 11, the donation was delivered to the Cultural Heritage Administration and the National Trust for Cultural Heritage and will be used specifically for the conservation of documents that were added to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register this past April.
A native of Jeju Island, Seungkwan has consistently engaged in philanthropic efforts to give back to his hometown. In November last year, he donated to Jeju Province’s “Hometown Love” fund to support the protection of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, a critically endangered species. That same month, he was appointed an official ambassador for Jeju, taking an active role in promoting the region.
In 2023, he drew attention at the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, where he highlighted Jeju’s distinction as the only region in the world designated by UNESCO in three different environmental categories.
