Alt Studio announced on June 11 that it will produce a 10-episode drama based on Beat, the iconic youth noir comic by artist Huh Young-man.

Originally serialized in Young Champ from 1994 to 1995, Beat became a cultural phenomenon, surpassing 1 million copies in circulation. The comic captured the anger, confusion, and coming-of-age struggles of Korean youth in the 1990s, sparking what was dubbed the “Beat syndrome.”

In 1997, the story was adapted into a hit film starring Jung Woo-sung and Ko So-young. Lines like “I never had a dream” and the legendary “17-against-1 fight” scene turned Jung into a youth icon.

The upcoming drama will retain the spirit of the original while reinterpreting it with a contemporary lens to resonate with a broader, multi-generational audience. The production team stated, “Look forward to the arrival of a new ‘Min’ who will represent today’s youth.”

Beat is slated for release in the first half of next year.
