Veteran actor Choi Min-sik is set to star in his first-ever Netflix series, Notes From the Last Row, the streaming platform announced on May 29.
Based on a Spanish play of the same name, the series follows an irritable, sharp-tongued literature professor whose long-buried dream of becoming a writer is reignited after he meets a mysteriously gifted student who always sits in the last row of the classroom.
Choi will play Heo Moon-oh, a notoriously temperamental professor in the Korean literature department. Rising actor Choi Hyun-wook has been cast as Lee Kang, an enigmatic engineering student with a quiet but intense presence in the back of the lecture hall.
Heo Joon-ho will portray Kim Soo-hoon, a successful novelist and Heo Moon-oh’s college friend, while Kim Yunjin takes on the role of Ahn Eun-joo, Soo-hoon’s wife. Jin Kyung joins the cast as Jo Hyun-sook, a psychotherapist and Heo Moon-oh’s spouse.
The series will be directed by Kim Kyu-tae, known for hit dramas such as Our Blues and It’s Okay, That’s Love.
