Artworks by actor-turned-painter Park Shin-yang have been transformed into the official posters for the 29th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), set to open in July, organizers announced on May 13.
The posters reinterpret Park’s paintings Palette and Donkey 13 using artificial intelligence (AI), in collaboration with Studio Freewillusion, a leading studio in AI film production and Korea’s first to adopt AI filmmaking for a major film festival.
Park has actively pursued a career in fine art since his first solo exhibition, The Fourth Wall, in 2023, and also published an art book of the same title outlining his personal artistic philosophy.
The new BIFAN poster also incorporates surrealist imagery—such as the eye and donkey motifs featured in Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí’s short film Un Chien Andalou—exploring the subtle space between fine art and AI-generated visuals.
The festival’s long-standing slogan, Stay Strange, will again represent this year’s edition, which will run from July 3 to July 13 in Bucheon, South Korea.
