KOSPI falls below 2,400 amid U.S. market plunge

On April 7, the KOSPI index opened at 2,359.25, down 4.31% (106.17 points) from the previous trading day, marking the first time since November of the previous year that it has fallen below the 2,400 level. This decline follows a significant drop in major U.S. stock indices over the weekend.

 

As of 9:10 AM, all top 10 market capitalization companies were experiencing declines: Samsung Electronics (-5.17%), SK Hynix (-6.37%), LG Energy Solution (-3.50%), Samsung Biologics (-5.52%), Hyundai Motor (-3.96%), Samsung Electronics Preferred (-4.09%), Celltrion (-4.20%), Kia (-4.46%), Hanwha Aerospace (-3.85%), and Naver (-3.03%).

 

The KOSDAQ index also opened lower, starting at 667.02, down 2.96% (20.37 points) from the previous trading day.

 

Meanwhile, the Korean won traded at 1,461.80 against the U.S. dollar at 9:00 AM, a slight increase of 0.3 won (0.02%) from the previous close.
