Robert Prevost elected as Pope Leo XIV, first American pontiff
Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, 69, was elected as the 267th pope on May 8, becoming the first American to lead the Roman Catholic Church. He succeeds Pope Francis and was originally appointed cardinal by Francis himself.
