Democratic Party Supreme Council member Kim Min-seok fiercely criticized Acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on May 1 over his expected presidential bid, calling for an immediate raid of the Prime Minister’s Office and an investigation into alleged election law violations.
At a press conference held in front of the Government Complex Seoul, Kim denounced Han’s resignation and candidacy, saying, “Han Duck-soo should be urgently arrested and investigated. The Prime Minister’s Office must be raided without delay.”
Kim accused Han of abusing his office for political gain, stating, “Han is bailing out today, after using the prime minister’s title, car, salary, and expense account to prepare for his run and campaign behind the scenes.” He added, “He even jeopardized critical trade negotiations affecting our national interest just to advance his personal ambitions.”
Kim argued that Han’s resignation should not be accompanied by a dignified announcement, but by an apology. “He prepared his campaign while in public office and mobilized government personnel for political purposes. That’s not just unethical—it’s a violation of the election law and abuse of power,” he said. “There are even reports that he operated a campaign war room staffed by former intelligence officials, reeking of old-school political manipulation.”
He also accused Han of building an “outdated sakura-style alliance” under the guise of a “big tent” coalition. “His blind ambition will lead to his downfall,” Kim warned, urging prosecutors and the National Election Commission to immediately raid the Prime Minister’s Office and launch an investigation. “To exploit the office of prime minister like this is shameful. Even the clouds above the government complex seemed unusually dark today. History will remember Han Duck-soo as the worst prime minister since the Eulsa Treaty—a ‘runaway traitor’ in modern form.”
