A service member was found unconscious with injuries at a frontline military unit in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, and later died.

The South Korean Army said on Nov. 2 that a male sergeant at a frontline unit in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, had died after being found unconscious with injuries.

"A member of the unit discovered the sergeant lying on the ground with a head injury while checking the scene inside a unit building," an Army official said. "Military and civilian investigative authorities are investigating the exact cause and circumstances of the incident."

A firearm and a spent cartridge case were reportedly found next to the sergeant at the time of discovery.
