U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 16th (local time), "Hyundai just announced they are investing $560 million (approximately 748.6 billion won) to expand their plant in West Point, Georgia."
Speaking at a midterm election campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, President Trump mentioned foreign companies' investments in the United States, pointing to Hyundai's investment plan as an example. He added, "Our country is doing so well under Republican leadership."
President Trump's remarks appear to refer to the investment plan of Hyundai Transys, the auto parts manufacturing affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group.
Earlier on the 8th, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced the news in a press release, stating, "The company plans to create 320 new jobs as part of ongoing efforts to support global automotive customers operating in North America." According to the release, Hyundai Transys will deploy the investment funds toward modernizing facilities at its existing Plant 1 and Plant 2 in West Point, as well as constructing Plant 3.
The State of Georgia announced, "This expansion will support added production capacity for electrified powertrains for hybrid vehicles," adding, "Hyundai Transys will be hiring for administrative, supervisory, and production positions."
