Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos signaled a theatrical release for the sequel to the animated feature film KPop Demon Hunters.

Sarandos stated during Bloomberg's Screentime conference held in Los Angeles on the 30th of last month (local time) that "audiences can expect a wide theatrical release when the KPop Demon Hunters sequel arrives," U.S. entertainment outlet TheWrap reported.

Netflix has recently been moving to lengthen theatrical windows. For the film La Bola Negra, the streamer plans to implement a 45-day theatrical window for the first time. The platform also aims to pursue wide theatrical releases for Narnia and an animated adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Regarding the expansion of theatrical releases, Sarandos explained that the company is seeking ways to satisfy moviegoers who want to experience films in theaters without diminishing the value of Netflix's content.

He noted in particular that theater-going audiences tend to watch films on the big screen first, which subsequently draws in a different demographic when titles arrive on Netflix. Accordingly, Netflix has been tailoring its theatrical distribution strategy to match each film's specific characteristics and target audience.

In line with this strategy, the KPop Demon Hunters sequel has been categorized as a title driven by family audiences and repeat viewing demand, putting it on track for a wide theatrical rollout.
