The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will introduce South Korea's public services, including digital identification and electronic customs clearance systems, to Romania and Georgia while discussing ways to cooperate on applying artificial intelligence (AI) to public administration.

The ministry announced on the 28th that it will dispatch an "AI Government Delegation" to both nations from the 29th through the 4th of next month. The delegation includes officials from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Korea Customs Service, the Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corp. (KOMSCO), the Korea Local Information Research & Development Institute, the National Information Society Agency, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation will host the Korea-Romania AI Government Policy Forum in Romania on the 30th. Participants will share AI and digital transformation policies alongside public service innovation cases from both countries, while South Korea will present its national AI policies, local government AI applications, mobile identification systems, and the UNI-PASS electronic customs clearance platform.

On the 2nd of next month, the delegation will hold a policy forum in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Joined by Georgia's Deputy Minister of Justice and other officials, the forum will explore ways to apply AI across administrative and public services, assessing potential cooperation in digital identification and data-driven administration.

Cooperation with Georgia builds upon the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Digital Government signed on the 8th. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to establish and operate a Digital Government Cooperation Center in Georgia from this year through 2028. During this visit, officials will also identify local policy demands to develop follow-up joint initiatives.

Hwang Gyu-chul, director general of the Artificial Intelligence Government Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "Dispatching this AI Government Delegation presents an excellent opportunity to effectively share South Korea's outstanding policies and technological prowess." He added, "We will actively identify and expand demand for cooperation with foreign governments."
