The government will unveil the operational direction and implementation plan for a nationwide inspection before the Chuseok holiday to weed out illegal farmland speculation.

Cheong Wa Dae announced on the 17th regarding the nationwide farmland survey, "To resolve anxieties and misunderstandings on the ground, the government and the ruling party will consult to establish specific action directions and plans for the nationwide survey, and announce them before Chuseok."

Earlier, President Lee Jae-myung ordered the execution of a comprehensive inspection on farmland to identify speculative land holdings.

However, contrary to the original intent, concerns spread that the government might confiscate farmland, prompting President Lee to reportedly instruct officials to accompany the move with thorough explanations and public outreach.

Cheong Wa Dae explained, "The nationwide farmland inspection is being carried out to single out speculative agricultural land, return it to genuine farmers, and ascertain the nationwide status of farmland to improve systems and policies in line with rural realities."

It added, "However, due to a lack of sufficient explanations and public communication regarding the purpose and objectives of the survey, various anxieties and concerns have arisen on the ground," noting that it will release the plan for the nationwide farmland inspection ahead of Chuseok.
