President Lee Jae-myung will chair a briefing session titled "Future Growth Engines: 7 SEEDs" at the presidential office on the 12th.

The seven SEEDs are small modular reactors (SMR), nuclear fusion, renewable energy, quantum technology, space and aviation, advanced bio, and advanced materials and components.

The goal is to develop these industries into Korea's future economic pillars, alongside the country's three mega-projects centered on semiconductors, AI data centers, and physical AI.

At the briefing, Kim Seung-wan, a professor at the Korea Institute of Energy Technology, will present on "Energy Technology and Supply Chains for the AI Transformation," while Jang Jin-a, a professor at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), will present on "Advanced Technologies Pioneering the Future Great Leap Forward."

Trade, Industry and Energy Minister Kim Jung-kwan will report on future policy direction under the theme "Foundations for Pioneering the Future: Cultivating an Advanced Supply Chain Ecosystem," followed by an open discussion.

The briefing will be attended by around 60 people, including ministers from relevant agencies and presidential aides, along with researchers from universities, research institutes, and companies, science and engineering students, and entrepreneurs.

The presidential office said the session is meant to explore ways to secure advanced technologies and foster industry together with science and technology experts and business leaders, in order to successfully support the AI transformation and pioneer the country's next great leap forward, adding that it will also discuss ways to strengthen the foundational capacity of Korea's science and technology sector through nurturing science and engineering talent and reforming the research ecosystem.
