The presidential office held an emergency security review meeting on the 6th after North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile toward the East Sea from the Wonsan area.

The presidential National Security Office said it convened the emergency meeting that day with officials from relevant agencies, including the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in attendance.

According to the presidential office, the meeting analyzed and assessed the impact of North Korea's ballistic missile launch on Korea's security and reviewed necessary response measures.

The National Security Office said North Korea's ballistic missile launch is a provocative act that violates UN Security Council resolutions.

Military authorities had earlier said they detected a short-range ballistic missile launched from the Wonsan area toward the East Sea around 5 p.m. that day.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said the South Korean military is strengthening surveillance and vigilance in preparation for additional launches, adding that South Korea, the U.S., and Japan are closely sharing information related to the North's ballistic missile and maintaining full readiness.
