The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on July 29 that no reports of damage or casualties among South Korean nationals have been received following the magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.

The Foreign Ministry held a joint headquarters-diplomatic mission situation assessment meeting presided over by Director-General for Overseas Koreans and Safety Jo Joo-sung, alongside the Consulate General in Fukuoka, to evaluate the earthquake situation in Japan and review safety measures for South Korean citizens.

The Consulate General in Fukuoka reported, "As of 4:00 p.m. on July 29, no casualties among our citizens have been received," adding, "We will maintain continuous contact with relevant Japanese agencies and the local Korean community to closely monitor the situation and take necessary measures, such as issuing safety notices as needed."
