President Lee Jae-myung, on a visit to the U.S., visited Pier 39 in San Francisco with First Lady Kim Hea-kyung on July 25 (local time) to meet local citizens and tourists from around the world.

Citizens and tourists who met President Lee and his wife greeted them warmly, with some recognizing President Lee, Cheong Wa Dae Deputy Spokesperson An Gwi-ryeong said in a written briefing.

A foreign tourist expressed interest in Korea, saying her daughter hopes to study in Korea, and took a commemorative photo with President Lee and his wife. Tourists from Korea also greeted President Lee.

Pier 39 is a complex cultural and commercial space featuring sea lion habitats, restaurants, shops, and street performances, and is recognized as an exemplary model of urban regeneration that transformed a former industrial pier into a new landmark.

President Lee and his wife toured the area while listening to explanations from Lim Jung-taek, Consul General in San Francisco, on Pier 39's urban regeneration process and local marine ecology. They then had dinner featuring local food such as clam chowder and pasta at Scoma's Restaurant, a long-standing restaurant in San Francisco.

President Lee concludes his official itinerary in San Francisco today and departs for Brazil, the next destination on his trip.
