A senior police officer who served in Gyeongnam Province for 35 years is under inspection following allegations of habitually sexually harassing female subordinates and abusing his authority over department staff.

According to police sources on July 23, the National Police Agency obtained intelligence earlier this month regarding misconduct involving Superintendent A of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency and launched an inspection.

Superintendent A faces allegations of sexually harassing around 10 female subordinates during team dinners and other gatherings over several years. The inspection also reportedly covers allegations of making improper demands, such as forcing subordinates to pay for his bar bills in exchange for promotion favors.

Having joined the force as a constable in 1991, Superintendent A has served exclusively in Gyeongnam Province to date, primarily building his career in intelligence roles.

Recognizing the severity of the matter, the National Police Agency reassigned Superintendent A to a waiting list last week. The agency's Human Rights Protection Officer is also participating in the inspection, carrying out fact-finding investigations while implementing victim protection measures.

The National Police Agency plans to finalize the inspection next month and determine based on the results whether to refer Superintendent A to a disciplinary committee and request a formal police investigation.
