China expressed its deep condolences over the significant loss of life caused by the powerful earthquakes in Venezuela and shared its willingness to provide assistance. In response, Interim President Delcy Rodríguez stated in a message released immediately after the disaster, "We extend our gratitude for China's support and its willingness to provide humanitarian aid to Venezuela."
Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said during a regular press briefing on the 25th, "China is closely monitoring the reports regarding the earthquakes in Venezuela," and added, "We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Venezuelan government and the affected residents."
He continued, "We believe that under the leadership of the Venezuelan government, the people will overcome this disaster and rebuild their livelihoods as quickly as possible," before noting, "China stands ready to provide possible assistance in an appropriate manner according to the needs of the Venezuelan side."
He also explained, "China is closely monitoring the earthquake damage and is staying in tight communication with the Chinese Embassy in Venezuela," adding, "As of now, no casualties among Chinese nationals have been reported."
He then reiterated, "China will provide assistance within its capabilities in accordance with the future requests of the Venezuelan side."
According to diplomatic sources in Beijing on the 26th, consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 struck near Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, on the 24th (local time), sparking serious concerns over large-scale casualties. Given the relatively close ties between China and Venezuela, it appears natural for China to have immediately expressed its willingness to provide support.
