South Korean President Lee Jae-myung met with U.S. President Donald Trump and shared a brief conversation on June 16 (local time) at the Group of Seven (G7) Summit venue in Évian, France.
At the photo op for the G7 Summit group photograph, President Trump inquired about the current state of inter-Korean relations. In response, President Lee requested, "Just as you resolved the conflicts in the Middle East, please take the lead in bringing a peaceful resolution to the North Korean issue," according to a written briefing by Kang Yu-jung, the senior presidential press secretary.
President Trump responded positively, expressing his willingness by saying, "I will make efforts to resolve the North Korean issue."
During their conversation, President Lee was also seen nodding his head while speaking with President Trump.
In addition to Trump, President Lee engaged in conversations with other world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
